I am embarrassed to say that I have not made the jump to digital photography yet. I do thank you for your reply. As the mold in the shape that it's in, it won't hurt to try grinding it down. I was just wondering if anyone else had ever tried it. Thanks for hosting this site. I enjoy it.

Can you post a picture so we can get a better idea of what the problem is... Are the mold pitted? If so, I don't think there's much you can do about it.

Greetings ! I have purchased some older molds from e-bay. I have cleaned them as recommend, however, the metal is no longer very smooth. I have been disappointed when I remove my creepy crawlers because the less than smooth mold yields less than smooth results. I have been thinking about maybe trying a Dremel type tool with sanding attachments and see if I can smooth them down any. Has anyone ever tried this ? If so, how well did it work out for you ?

There's a listing on Ebay now, under "CREEPY CRAWLERS PLASTI-GOOP THINGMAKER LOT #1"...They have several bottles of Color Change Plasti-Goop, some Plasti-Steel, Glow goop, regular goop, & FX pens. If you bid, good luck!

You can buy the ingredients here: http://www.jannsnetcraft.com/Search/plastisol.aspx OR: Save yourself the time & mess by buying Plasti Goop on Ebay. There are currently three reputable sellers of Goop there, "dr_goop", "patti-goop", and "t-orgovan". Each of these sellers makes their own brand of new Goop, and each have been very helpful in answering questions about which brand is good for which use. "Patti-Goop" brand is excellent & has the original smell. The good Dr's "Plasti-Craft" brand has a grey color that looks semi-metallic, though I think you have to purchase it through the Dr's own website, and t-orgovan's "Bug Juice" is a bit thicker, and great for detailing/layering. There are also many listings on Ebay for the old goop, Mattel, Toymax, & Jakks brands. I have bought some original Mattel goop that was in the 40 year old range, had it sit overnight in my mailbox, thawed it out, & made Mini-Dragons from it. Some of it thickened over the years, but it works great for detailing. The old Mattel white I have bubbles up while cooking, but it only shows up on the back of the item. Good luck & happy creepy cooking!

Anthony, from my study and use, it is basically a pvc (polyvinyl chloride) powder + some type of plasticizer, based thermoplastic elastomer that sets up or poylmerizers upon heating. This can be puchased under the category of plastisol at fishing lure sites or if your really good, hunt down a company that makes the stuff a get it in bulk -5 gallon bucket for $.25/oz. amd you custom color it with any non-water based pigments. sciboy33
